What the CIO needs to know (and do) to transform their company and their clients' business

Becoming irrelevant is the nightmare of every IT leader, also known as the CIO (Chief Information Officer) on LinkedIn and in the company organization chart.

Now the digital transformation is no longer optional, in fact, from a research that Dell Technologies has commissioned through Forrester Consulting, it can be seen that "until 2022, 75% of successful digital strategies will be implemented by a transformed IT organization with modernized and streamlined infrastructure, applications and data architectures". 

But for a true digital transformation to take place, IT leaders must reform their IT organizations.  

The role of IT and IT services is changing: at one time, IT enabled the company to deliver its core competencies, but today it is critical to business transformation and innovation. As a result, IT staff must be able to focus on strategic projects that aim for change.

However, not all companies have the necessary skills to successfully implement and support new technologies and the necessary time and expertise to innovate.

Another prediction that appears from Forrester Consulting's research states that by 2022, the talent pool for emergent technologies will be inadequate to fill as little as 30% of global demand, and the development and maintenance of appropriate skills will become a strategy of differentiation.

It is therefore necessary to shift the focus from maintenance to innovation. In this regard, 44% of companies say they do not have the right IT resources to effectively implement new technologies, while 62% do not have the IT skills needed to realize the full potential of technology procurement. As a result, innovation leaders are turning to the IT services offered by their technology providers to provide the resources and expertise they need to fill these gaps.


When implementation and support needs are entrusted to specialized IT service providers, the results are extremely favorable:

  • 70 % of IT managers who use implementation services say they can implement solutions more quickly,  
  • 77% of having more time for innovation  
  • 81% agree that the use of support tools and technology brings more free time to the staff.  


With the involvement of external IT professionals for support and implementation, organizations can achieve better and faster results. They can allow their teams to focus more on achieving business objectives while at the same time engaging technical service experts to manage specialized or time-consuming functions that would otherwise consume all their resources.
