The new post-pandemic normality has also changed the needs of the IT world, driving IT leaders to reconsider roles and priorities within organisations.
The agile work that has been forcefully introduced into everyday business life has led CTOs and CIOs to accelerate the digital transformation. The latter, in addition to improving expense management and remote working, has become a top priority.
Until recently, agile work had never been taken seriously, because it was often associated with misconceptions or false myths. Today, however, from obligation to choice, many companies have taken a more positive view of working remotely and continue to work remotely even in the post-pandemic period, noticing the benefits.
In addition to remote working, the pandemic has also led to a reappraisal of the possibility of relying on third-party partners to develop one's own IT networks or projects: it is possible to collaborate and work properly even with very large geographical distances between client and client or even between teams within the same company.
Many CTOs are very much in favour of the idea of outsourcing their IT projects, especially because the first advantage lies in cost savings, which can be useful and necessary to get started again.
Over the years, therefore, many myths about agile work have sprung up, wrong ideas that have contributed to making companies more and more conservative.
Let's analyse some of them and take them apart for good.
1. "Teams working remotely can make decisions randomly and/or incorrectly".
Various methods are used to deal with this hypothesis: Scrum, daily stand-ups, sprint planning and preparation, performance reviews and retrospectives, so that the whole team can take part in the decision-making process.
2. "Integration between professionals in different locations would take too long".
The onboarding of a new team member, both on-site and remotely, must already be understood and integrated into a pre-established plan. In any case, thanks to work organisation tools, communication even between different team members is really simple.
3. "Remote workers are less productive".
Agile work prevents employees from moving around on a day-to-day basis, which leads to fewer distractions, allowing them to work more and better. Distributed teams, if equipped with the right management and communication tools, can be even more effective than centralised teams. The most important thing is to have the right people in the team, the position is irrelevant to productivity.
4. "Different teams working remotely cannot work together".
Thanks to today's technology, distance is no longer an obstacle to collaboration.
In short, agile work has really improved our lives. Using it in the right way is not always easy, however, it is often necessary to rely on real experts.
